How the multiplying fractions calculator works

Multiplying fractions needs no common denominator: multiply the numerators, multiply the denominators, reduce. 2/3 × 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2.

It is worth noticing that multiplying by a proper fraction makes a number smaller, which is the opposite of what "multiply" suggests. Two-thirds of three-quarters is less than either.

Formula: a/b + c/d = (ad + cb) / bd; a/b × c/d = ac / bd; a/b ÷ c/d = ad / bc
