UK financial calculators — how they work for the 2026–27 tax year
Every calculator on this page is built specifically for taxpayers in the United Kingdom. They use the HMRC PAYE system — the Personal Allowance (£12,570, tapered away at £1 for every £2 of income above £100,000), the basic rate of 20% to £50,270, higher rate of 40% to £125,140, and additional rate of 45% above that. Scottish taxpayers have a separate set of bands (starter, basic, intermediate, higher, advanced, and top rates), and our income tools let you switch to the Scottish Rate of Income Tax where relevant.
National Insurance and take-home pay
The salary and take-home calculators model National Insurance correctly: Class 1 employee contributions at 8% between the primary threshold and upper earnings limit and 2% above it, with employer contributions and the relevant thresholds applied separately. Self-employed users are modelled on Class 2 and Class 4 contributions. Student Loan repayments are handled by plan type (Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4, Plan 5, and the Postgraduate Loan), each with its own threshold and repayment rate, because getting the plan wrong materially changes monthly take-home.
ISAs, pensions, and tax-advantaged saving
The savings and pension tools use the £20,000 annual ISA allowance across cash, stocks-and-shares, Lifetime (with the 25% government bonus and £4,000 sub-limit) and Innovative Finance ISAs. Pension calculators apply the Annual Allowance of £60,000, tapered for high earners down to a £10,000 floor, plus the Money Purchase Annual Allowance where flexible access has been triggered. Tax relief on personal pension contributions is modelled at your marginal rate, including the higher- and additional-rate relief claimed through Self Assessment.
Property, Stamp Duty, and Inheritance Tax
UK property calculations reflect how British home buying actually works: Stamp Duty Land Tax bands for England and Northern Ireland (with first-time-buyer relief up to £425,000 and the 5% surcharge on additional properties), and the calculators flag that Scotland uses LBTT and Wales uses LTT with different thresholds. The Inheritance Tax tools apply the £325,000 nil-rate band plus the £175,000 residence nil-rate band, taper relief on lifetime gifts, and the reduced 36% rate where 10% or more of the estate is left to charity.
Why a UK-specific tool matters
Generic calculators that aren't localized produce misleading figures — they miss Personal Allowance tapering, mis-handle the two-rate National Insurance structure, ignore Scottish bands, or apply foreign pension rules. Every figure here is current for the 2026–27 tax year and denominated in pounds sterling. All calculations run entirely in your browser: no data is sent to a server, no account is required, and every result comes with a full breakdown, charts, and sensitivity tables so you can see exactly how the answer was reached.
About GlobalCalc
GlobalCalc provides free, accurate financial calculators for the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia — each market built on that country's own tax authority, currency, and regulatory rules rather than a one-size-fits-all template.
