How the save percentage calculator works
Save percentage is saves divided by shots on target; hockey writes it as .920, soccer as 92%. Goals-against average is goals conceded scaled to a full game — 60 minutes in hockey, 90 in soccer — so a keeper who plays part of a game is compared fairly.
Formula: SV% = saves ÷ shots; GAA = goals × game length ÷ minutes played

What is a good save percentage in hockey?
About .900–.910 is average for an NHL goalie; .920 and above is very good and .930 elite over a full season. Small samples swing wildly — a few games tell you little.
How is goals-against average calculated?
Goals against multiplied by the game length (60 minutes in hockey) and divided by minutes played. A goalie who plays half a game and concedes one has a GAA of 2.00, not 1.00.
How does it work for soccer?
Soccer quotes save percentage as a plain share of shots on target — about 70% is typical, 75% or more very good — and goals conceded per 90 minutes, which the calculator gives when you pick the 90-minute game.
Do empty-net goals count?
In hockey, no — a goal scored with the goalie pulled is not charged to the goalie in either save percentage or goals-against average.
