Pizza Party Calculator

How many pizzas to order for a party from the number of adults and children, how hungry they are and how the pizzas are cut.

The rule of thumb is three slices of a large pizza per adult and two per child, adjusted for appetite — a lunch crowd eats less than a game-night one — and for sides.

About pizza party

How the pizza party calculator works

The rule of thumb is three slices of a large pizza per adult and two per child, adjusted for appetite — a lunch crowd eats less than a game-night one — and for sides. Multiply out the slices, divide by slices per pizza and round up; the leftover row tells you whether dropping one pizza is safe.

Formula: pizzas = ceil((adults × 3 + children × 2) × appetite ÷ slices per pizza)

Frequently asked questions

How many slices does an adult eat?

About three slices of a large (14 in / 35 cm) pizza — two for a light eater or with lots of sides, four or five for a hungry teenager. Children two.

Does the pizza size matter?

Yes — the calculator counts slices, so use the slices-per-pizza your shop actually cuts: typically 6 for a small, 8 for a large, 10–12 for an extra-large.

What mix of toppings?

Roughly a third plain or margherita, a third meat, a third vegetarian or specialty covers most crowds, with at least one pizza that suits any dietary needs you know about.

Is it better to over-order?

Slightly — cold pizza keeps, and running out is worse than leftovers. If the leftover row shows most of a pizza spare and the crowd is light, dropping one is reasonable.
