How the dots score calculator works
DOTS (2019) replaced the Wilks formula in many federations. It multiplies the total by 500 divided by a fourth-degree polynomial in bodyweight, with separate coefficients for men and women, so a 70 kg lifter and a 120 kg lifter can be ranked on one scale. A score around 300 is a solid intermediate; 400 and above is elite for most weight classes.
The formula is defined in kilograms; pounds are converted first. Bodyweight is clamped to the ranges the polynomial was fitted on (40–210 kg men, 40–150 kg women) so the curve does not run wild outside them.
Formula: DOTS = total × 500 ÷ (a + b·bw + c·bw² + d·bw³ + e·bw⁴)

What is a good DOTS score?
Roughly: 200 beginner, 300 intermediate, 400 advanced, 500+ world class. Federations publish classification tables by score.
DOTS or Wilks — what is the difference?
Both adjust a total for bodyweight. DOTS (2019) was refitted to modern raw-lifting data and corrects Wilks's tendency to favour the heaviest and lightest classes, which is why the IPF and most federations moved to it.
Can I score a single lift?
Yes — enter the lift instead of the total. The coefficient is the same; only the number being scaled changes.
Why is bodyweight clamped?
The polynomial was fitted on 40–210 kg for men and 40–150 kg for women. Outside that it is not meaningful, so the calculator holds it at the edge and says so.
