Environment & Climate Calculators — Australia
Emissions, energy, water and waste arithmetic. The physics is universal; the published factors are cited with their source and year, because they move.
Emissions & offsetting
Flight Emissions Calculator
The carbon emissions of a flight per passenger — with and without the high-altitude effects that roughly double aviation's warming impact.
Open calculator →
Tree Offset Calculator
How many trees it takes to absorb a given amount of carbon dioxide, and how long they need — with the caveats that make the number less comforting than it looks.
Open calculator →
Diet Carbon Footprint Calculator
The greenhouse gas emissions of a diet over a year, and how much changing it would save — using the per-diet figures from the Scarborough study.
Open calculator →
Meat Carbon Footprint Calculator
The emissions from the meat you eat — by type, with the substitutions that reduce it most and the flights they compare to.
Open calculator →
Tree Benefits Calculator
What a tree or a group of trees does over its life — carbon absorbed, air pollutants removed, stormwater intercepted and cooling provided.
Open calculator →
Carbon Budget Years Calculator
How long a remaining carbon budget lasts — at today's emissions, and if emissions fall by a steady percentage each year — with the year it runs out, the cut rate that would make it last to a target year, and the emissions still allowed.
Open calculator →
Carbon Offset Cost Calculator
The cost of offsetting a quantity of greenhouse-gas emissions at a price per tonne — per year, per month and per kilogram — with a guide to what different prices buy.
Open calculator →
Commute Emissions Calculator
The greenhouse gas your commute produces in a year — by car, motorbike, bus, train, tram, e-bike, bicycle or on foot — and what switching modes would save.
Open calculator →
Emissions Reduction Target Calculator
The annual reduction needed to take emissions from today’s level to a target percentage cut by a target year — as a constant yearly percentage and as a straight-line cut — with the emissions along the way.

Energy at home
Solar Panel Output Calculator
How much electricity a solar array generates in a day, a month and a year — from its size, your sunshine hours and a realistic performance ratio.
Open calculator →
Appliance Energy Calculator
How much electricity an appliance uses in a day, a month and a year — from its wattage and how long it runs, including standby.
Open calculator →
Hydroelectric Power Calculator
The power a stream or dam can generate from its head and flow, and what that comes to over a year.
Open calculator →
Wind Turbine Power Calculator
The power a wind turbine produces from its rotor size and the wind speed — and why doubling the wind gives eight times the power.
Open calculator →
LED Bulb Savings Calculator
What replacing incandescent or halogen bulbs with LEDs saves in electricity, money and emissions each year — and how quickly the new bulbs pay for themselves.
Open calculator →
Water, waste & air
Rainwater Harvesting Calculator
How much rainwater a roof collects from your rainfall — per event, per month and per year — and what tank size that suggests.
Open calculator →
Air Quality Index Calculator
The US EPA air quality index from a PM2.5 concentration — with the category, what it means for health, and what a reading in another scale would say.
Open calculator →
Plastic Footprint Calculator
How much plastic you use in a year, what fraction is genuinely recycled, and what the avoidable share looks like.
Open calculator →
Water Footprint Calculator
Your water footprint — the water you use directly and the far larger amount embedded in the food and goods you buy.
Open calculator →
Tap Water vs Bottled Water Calculator
What bottled water costs against tap — in money, emissions and plastic, over a year.
Open calculator →
Waste Diversion Rate Calculator
The share of a household's or site's waste diverted from landfill — recycling, organics and other recovery against what goes to the tip — with the per-person figures, the contamination allowance, and how much more would have to be diverted to reach a target.
Open calculator →
Volunteer Hours Value Calculator
The value of volunteer time — hours times an hourly rate, with on-costs — for a programme or an organisation, with the per-volunteer figure, the full-time equivalents it represents, and what it adds to the value of a grant.
Open calculator →
Dripping Tap Calculator
How much water a dripping tap wastes in a day and a year, and what it costs at your water rate.
Open calculator →
Reusable Bag Break-Even Calculator
How many uses it takes for a cotton tote, a woven polypropylene bag or a bag-for-life to have a lower climate footprint than the single-use plastic bags it replaces — and how long that is at your shopping rate.
Open calculator →
Carpool Savings Calculator
What sharing a commute saves each person in fuel money, and what it saves the road and the air in kilometres driven and CO₂ — for two, three or four people taking turns.
Open calculator →
Weather & comfort
Dew Point Calculator
The temperature at which air becomes saturated and dew forms — the honest measure of how humid it feels.
Open calculator →
Heat Index Calculator
What the temperature feels like once humidity is taken into account — the "apparent temperature" weather services warn on.
Open calculator →
Wind Chill Calculator
How cold the wind makes it feel — and how quickly exposed skin freezes.

About these calculators
Emission factors are estimates from published sources, not measurements of your own circumstances, and they change as electricity grids and supply chains change. Each page names the source and year it uses. Offsetting arithmetic shows what a quantity of carbon corresponds to; it is not a claim that offsetting cancels an emission, which depends entirely on whether the offset is real, additional and permanent.
