How the e-bike range calculator works
Battery capacity in watt-hours is volts × amp-hours (a 36 V, 14 Ah pack is 504 Wh). Divide by consumption per kilometre — roughly 8 Wh/km in eco, 12 in a normal assist level, 18 in turbo, more with hills, headwinds and a heavy load — and keep a reserve, because a battery is usually stopped before it is flat.
Formula: range = watt-hours × (1 − reserve) ÷ Wh per km

How many watt-hours does my battery have?
Multiply its voltage by its amp-hours: 36 V × 14 Ah is 504 Wh. Most packs print both figures; some print only the watt-hours.
Why is my real range less than the estimate?
Hills, headwinds, cold weather, a heavy load, low tyre pressure and stop-start riding all raise consumption, and an older battery holds less than its label. Real riding often lands 20–30% under the flat-road figure.
What does the reserve do?
It keeps a share of the battery unused so the estimate reflects when you would realistically stop, not the point where the motor cuts out. Ten percent also protects the cells from deep discharge.
Does pedalling harder extend the range?
Yes — the motor supplies the difference between your effort and what the speed demands, so more rider input or a lower assist level directly lowers the watt-hours per kilometre.
