How the ellipsoid volume calculator works

An ellipsoid is a sphere scaled by a different factor along each axis, so its volume is ⁴⁄₃πabc where a, b and c are the semi-axes. When all three are equal it collapses to the sphere's ⁴⁄₃πr³. Real planets are close to this shape: spin flattens them slightly at the poles, making an oblate spheroid where two axes match and the third is shorter.
