How the paver calculator works
Each paver plus its joint covers (length + gap) × (width + gap). Divide the area by that, add 5–10% for cuts and breakages, and round up. Bedding sand goes under the pavers at 25–30 mm; the calculator uses 30 mm compacted, on top of whatever road base the ground needs.
A 200 × 100 mm paver with 3 mm joints needs about 48 per square meter; a 400 × 400 mm paver about 6.
Formula: pavers = area ÷ ((length + gap) × (width + gap)) × (1 + waste) · sand = area × 0.03 m

How many pavers per square meter?
About 48 for 200 × 100 mm, 22 for 300 × 300 mm and 6 for 400 × 400 mm, all with 3 mm joints.
How much sand and base do pavers need?
25–30 mm of bedding sand over 75–100 mm of compacted road base for paths and patios; 150 mm or more of base for driveways. Use the gravel calculator for the base.
What allowance should I make for cuts?
5% for a straight or stack bond in a rectangular area; 10% for herringbone, circles or many edges.
Do pavers need jointing sand too?
Yes — fine sand swept into the joints after laying. About 1 kg per square meter for 3 mm joints; more for wider ones.
