Points Per Game Calculator

Points, goals or runs per game from a season total — with the projection to a full season and what a target would require from here.

Points per game is the total divided by games played, and its value is that it compares players and teams who have played different numbers of games.

About points per game

How the points per game calculator works

Points per game is the total divided by games played, and its value is that it compares players and teams who have played different numbers of games. The projection multiplies that rate across a full season, which assumes the rate holds — a reasonable first estimate and a poor prediction, since form, fixtures and fitness all move.

The more useful figure is usually the last one: given a target for the season, what rate is needed from the remaining games. That is the number that says whether a target is still live.

Formula: per game = total ÷ games; required = (target − total) ÷ games remaining

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate points per game?

Divide the total by the number of games played.

How reliable is the projection?

As a first estimate, reasonable. As a prediction, poor — it assumes the rate holds, and form, fixtures and fitness all move.

What is the required rate for?

It answers whether a season target is still live: how much is needed per game from the remaining fixtures.

Does it work for goals, runs or points?

Yes — it is the same arithmetic whatever is being counted.

Should I use games played or games available?

Games actually played, otherwise an injured player looks worse than they are.
