Weekly Pay Calculator Australia 2026-27

Enter a weekly figure and say whether it is before or after tax. The calculator turns it into every other pay period — fortnightly, monthly and annual, gross and take-home — at 2026-27 ATO rates, with the Medicare levy, HELP repayments and the 12% super your employer pays on top. In after-tax mode it tells you the gross weekly pay you would need to clear that amount.

“I want to earn $1,500 a week” — here is what that means before tax, after tax, and by the fortnight, month and year.

About your weekly pay

One weekly figure, every other pay period

Before tax

Weekly pay × 52 paid weeks gives the annual figure the tax scale works from. $1,500 a week is $78,000 a year — $3,000 a fortnight and $6,500 a month (a month is 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks, not four, which is why monthly figures always look bigger than four pays).

After tax

The calculator applies the 2026-27 resident scale less the low income tax offset, adds the 2% Medicare levy and any HELP repayment, and shows the take-home for every period. On $78,000 that is $15,480 a year out, so $1,500 gross becomes $1,202 in hand.

After-tax mode

Press After tax and type the weekly amount you want to keep. The calculator solves the tax scale backwards for the gross pay that produces it — $1,200 in hand needs about $1,497 gross.

Resident, 52 paid weeks, no HELP, no hospital cover. The share you keep falls as pay rises because more of each extra dollar sits in the 30% bracket and the low income tax offset tapers away between $37,500 and $66,667. Weekly-paid workers should also check their payslip against the ATO weekly withholding table: employers withhold from each week’s pay as if it were repeated all year, so a few big weeks can over-withhold and come back as a refund.

Why $1,500 a week and $1,500 a week are not the same job

Job ads quote gross pay; budgets run on net. At 2026-27 rates a $1,500 gross week keeps $1,202, while a $1,500 net week needs $1,938 gross — $100,765 a year. The gap widens as pay rises: the 30% bracket starts at $45,000 (about $865 a week) and the 37% bracket at $135,000 (about $2,596 a week).

Two switches matter when you compare offers. Including super: a package quoted with super is 12% larger than the cash you are paid, so $1,500 “including super” is $69,643 of salary and $1,093 a week take-home, not $1,202. HELP: above $69,528 a year the compulsory repayment comes straight out of pay — $1,271 a year on $1,500 a week.

The deductions that are not income tax

Medicare levy. 2% of taxable income for most residents, with a shaded phase-in below $35,013 and nothing under $28,011. Singles without private hospital cover earning over $105,000 also pay the Medicare levy surcharge (1%, rising to 1.5% over $164,000) — the calculator applies it unless you tick hospital cover at the Detailed level.

HELP. Compulsory repayments start at $69,528 of repayment income for 2026-27, at 15% of the income above the threshold, 17% above $129,717, and 10% of total income above $186,050. On $78,000 that is $1,271 a year.

Super. Not a deduction — your employer pays 12% of ordinary time earnings into your fund on top of your pay: $9,360 a year on $1,500 a week. It only affects take-home when a package is quoted “including super”.

Frequently asked questions

How much is $1,500 a week per year?

$78,000 before tax (52 weeks). At 2026-27 rates take-home is about $62,520 a year, or $1,202 a week.

How do I convert weekly pay to monthly?

Multiply by 52 and divide by 12 — a month is 4.33 weeks, not four. $1,500 a week is $6,500 a month gross and about $5,210 a month after tax.

What weekly salary do I need to take home $1,200 a week?

About $1,497 a week gross, or $77,824 a year, at 2026-27 resident rates. Switch the calculator to After tax and enter $1,200 to see the breakdown.

How much tax is taken out of weekly pay in Australia?

Employers withhold PAYG each week using the ATO weekly tax table, which spreads the annual scale across 52 weeks. On $1,500 a week the year’s income tax and Medicare levy come to $15,480 — about $298 a week.

Does the weekly figure include super?

Only if you say so. Employers pay 12% super on top of ordinary time earnings, so $1,500 a week normally means $78,000 of salary plus $9,360 of super. If your package is quoted including super, use the switch at the Standard level.

How does a HELP debt change weekly take-home?

Above $69,528 a year, 15% of the income over the threshold is repaid through PAYG. On $1,500 a week that is $1,271 a year — about $24 a week less in hand.

Is weekly pay taxed differently from monthly pay?

No — the annual income is taxed on the same scale. Only the withholding rhythm differs: weekly tables withhold in smaller slices, and any over- or under-withholding is squared up in your tax return.

Is the Weekly Pay Calculator free and up to date?

Yes — free, no account is required, and calculator arithmetic runs in your browser. It uses 2026-27 ATO resident rates, LITO, Medicare levy and HELP thresholds, checked August 2026.

Where these figures come from

Understanding your result

Select the question that matches where you are right now.

Your result is one weekly figure expanded into the whole pay picture — gross and take-home by the week, fortnight, month and year at 2026-27 rates.

What to do with it

Budget from the monthly take-home, compare job ads on the annual gross, and use the after-tax mode to turn the weekly amount you need into the gross salary to ask for.

What it is not

Not a payslip. Salary sacrifice, allowances, tax codes and the ATO weekly withholding table move individual pays; this is the steady-state annual picture.

52 weeks, not 48

Annual figures assume you are paid for 52 weeks. Casual or seasonal work with unpaid gaps should use fewer paid weeks at the Standard level.

What moves the answer most on a weekly wage.

The 30% bracket

It starts at $45,000 — about $865 a week. Above that, each extra weekly dollar keeps 68 cents after tax and Medicare levy.

Including super or not

A package including super is 12% larger than cash pay — $1,500 including super takes home $1,093, not $1,202.

HELP and the surcharge

HELP starts at $69,528 and the Medicare levy surcharge at $105,000 for singles without hospital cover — together they can take 16% or more of the income above those lines.

Small structural changes move weekly take-home more than a small rise.

Salary sacrifice

Pre-tax super contributions are taxed at 15% inside the fund instead of your 30% marginal rate — model it on the Pay Calculator.

Check the withholding

Weekly earners with variable hours often over-withhold. Compare your payslip to the ATO weekly table, or claim the tax-free threshold with the right employer.

Negotiate gross, budget net

Decide the weekly take-home you need, use After tax to find the gross, and negotiate from there.

Your weekly pay connects to the rest of your finances.
