Cookie Policy
Our approach to cookies
The calculators and first-party GlobalCalc recommendations work without optional analytics. Google Analytics is not loaded before you switch on “Count my visit” and save that choice, and remains unloaded after you choose “All off, thanks”. Google advertising services and Microsoft Clarity are currently disabled for every choice pending a verified compliant consent solution and legal approval.
Browser storage we use
GlobalCalc uses local storage and session storage, which are browser storage mechanisms rather than cookies:
Theme preference (gc-theme)
Stores your selected display theme (Auto, Dark, Light, or A11y / Accessible) in local storage and, on some pages, mirrors it in session storage. This is set only when you actively choose a theme. Default is Auto (follows your OS setting).
Region preference (gc-region)
Stores your selected region (e.g., Australia) in session storage. It is set when you confirm or select a region and lasts for the browser-tab session.
Optional-analytics choice (gc-privacy-choice)
Stores in local storage whether you chose allow or decline, together with a preference version and the time the choice was updated. This prevents the choice panel from appearing on every page. It does not contain calculator inputs.
Submitted rating preference (gc-rated:<page-path>)
Created in local storage only after you choose a star rating. It remembers the score on that calculator page so the same browser does not offer another rating there. The submission sends the page path and score to GlobalCalc, which maintains the aggregate rating and a rolling record of the 50 most recent page, score and submission-time entries.
Before you allow optional analytics
GlobalCalc does not insert the Google Analytics script while your choice is undecided or declined. Google consent signals default analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation to denied. First-party house recommendations can still appear in advertising spaces and link only to other GlobalCalc pages.
GlobalCalc’s deployed HTML no longer contains Google Analytics or advertising preconnect or DNS-prefetch hints. The sitewide publication check blocks those hints from returning before a visitor choice.
Cloudflare still delivers and protects the site, and the site includes Cloudflare Web Analytics independently of this choice. Cloudflare may use cookies or similar mechanisms for security and service operation. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
After you allow optional analytics
GlobalCalc loads Google Analytics and grants analytics storage. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation remain denied, and Google signals and advertising-personalisation signals remain disabled in the site configuration. Google Analytics may use cookies, local storage or similar identifiers for analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Google AdSense, Google Publisher Tag / Google Ad Manager and Microsoft Clarity remain disabled even after allow. Enabling publisher ads in applicable European and UK traffic can require a certified consent platform, so GlobalCalc is not enabling them without verified compliance and legal approval. This means paid-ad revenue is intentionally unavailable during this containment period; house recommendations remain available.
“Show me a local sponsor” is displayed as Not available yet and remains off. The analytics choice does not enable local sponsorship or permit postcode use. No sponsor or postcode preference is created.
“Remember my work” is also displayed as Not available yet and remains off. GlobalCalc does not currently save calculator inputs or pinned calculators, and the privacy centre creates no remembered-work, calculation-history or pin preference.
How to change or clear your choice
Use the “Privacy choices” button at the bottom of any standard GlobalCalc page to switch “Count my visit” on or off and save that choice. “All off, thanks” saves decline. “Decide later” saves nothing and keeps optional analytics denied. Withdrawing a previous allow choice saves decline and reloads the page so Google Analytics remains unloaded. Clearing GlobalCalc site data removes local-storage preferences such as gc-theme, gc-privacy-choice and gc-rated:<page-path>. Closing the tab clears session-storage preferences such as gc-region.
