Our approach to cookies
GlobalCalc is designed to work without cookies. We do not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics for anonymous, aggregate page-view counts. It uses no cookies, stores no personal data, and cannot identify individual users — which is why it is not listed in this cookies policy.
What we use instead
We use localStorage (browser local storage, not cookies) to remember two simple preferences:
Theme preference (gc-theme)
Stores your selected display theme (Auto, Dark, Light, or A11y / Accessible). This is set only when you actively choose a theme. Default is Auto (follows your OS setting). You can clear this by clearing your browser's site data for globalcalc.net.
Region preference (gc-region)
Stores your selected region (e.g., Australia). Set when you confirm a region in the region selector. Used to direct you to the appropriate regional calculators. Cleared by clearing browser site data.
Third-party services
Cloudflare Web Analytics — our analytics provider does not use cookies and does not track individuals. It uses a privacy-preserving method to count page views without any persistent identifiers.
Cloudflare CDN — as our hosting provider, Cloudflare may set a short-lived session cookie (__cf_bm) for bot management purposes on some requests. This is a technical, non-tracking cookie that expires at the end of your session.
Future changes
If we introduce advertising (e.g., Google AdSense), this policy will be updated and a cookie consent mechanism will be added before any advertising cookies are set. We will give you clear choices before any tracking begins.
How to clear local storage
In most browsers: open Developer Tools (F12) → Application → Local Storage → globalcalc.net → delete gc-theme and/or gc-region. Alternatively, clear all site data for globalcalc.net in your browser's settings.
